There are few figures so prominent in European history as Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington - this room celebrates his close connections to the house.
Named after 1st Duke of Wellington - Arthur Wesley was just 12 years old when his older brother William inherited Ballyfin in 1781. The Duke of Wellington spent time here during his early career in the Irish House of Commons and in Dublin Castle before the commencement of his great military career in Europe in opposition to Napoleon the French Emperor.
Brightly decorated as an evocation of the eighteen-century Irish country house, with sunny walls and floral fabrics edged with silk, these rooms occupy the site of the old Pole mansion.
The decoration of these rooms evokes the interiors of the Georgian house of the Pole family which stood on the site, and they enjoyed similar views over the pleasure grounds that existed in 1807 when the young and rising Sir Arthur Wellesley brought the Lord Lieutenant, the 2nd Duke of Richmond as a guest to stay in Ballyfin.
We are pleased to be able to offer our guests complimentary laundry, limited to five items per room per day. (Further laundry and dry cleaning available at an additional cost).
