The Viceroy
The Viceroy room features a double bathroom and is situated in the former kitchen wing and so benefits from additional seclusion and privacy.
The room is a delight during the daytime with light pouring in through the Diocletian window overlooking the courtyard. The half-octagon shape of the room is particularly pleasing and exemplifies the subtle manipulation of space for which the Morrisons. Notable among the room's furnishings is a fine portrait of a young boy by Trevor Thomas Fowler (b.1810) and Irish Artist who, having been shipwrecked off the coast of Jamaica, made a successful career in the United States.
Very spacious & comfortable
The room is named for John Campbell Gordon, 7th Earl of Aberdeen and his wife, lady Ishbel who visited Ballyfin in 1911, mid-way through Aberdeen's second term as Viceroy, or Lord Lieutenant of Ireland. The sociable vicregal couple, known as Jumping Jack and Blowsy Bella, were popularly regarded for their philanthropy largely instituted under Lady Ishbels influence. The fine portrait of a young boy to the left of the window is a work of 1835 by the Irish artist Trevor Thomas Fowler.
