Emily' Lady Kildare', was the second of the four remarkable Lennox sisters, who were among the most interesting noblewomen of the second half of the eighteenth century. Daughters of the 2nd Duke of Richmond, and great-grandaughters of Charles II, their circumstances, education and social and political connections introducted them to the newest and highest ideas in philosophy, arts and culture, their personalities and activities made them leaders of contemporary tastes and fashions.
