It lies at the centre of the east front, set behind the entrance portico, the crisply carved capitals of which can be appreciated at close quarters. The room enjoys stunning views over the lake while inside, the elegant decoration, with various effects of green, is painted to imitate oak paneling. The Regency chimneypiece in white marble was moved here from the former Billiard Room.
A charming suit of armour in miniature, perched on a gilded console between the windows, give this room its name. The decoration of the room carries a complementary sense of verdure, painted to imitate limed oak panelling.
The portrait hanging on the chimneypiece of Robert Webb painted in London in 1735by Thomas Frye (1710-62). It is one of the few surviving portraits in oil by the artist who was born in the Irish midlands, at Edenderry not far from Ballyfin, and who left Ireland eventually to found the famous Bow porcelain factory in 1744. A small lobby leads into the former dressing room, now occupied by the bathroom. Here, an Irish oak-framed mirror garlanded with shamrocks is a good late- Victorian example of Ats and Crafts work, carved with the familiar Celtic-Revival attributes of hibernia - the harp, round tower and wolfhound.
