This wonderfully elegant space known originally as the Writing Room, was Sir Charles Coote's study.
Situated on the ground floor, Sir Charles Coote is discetely hidden away at the foot of the stairs. The bedroom is dominated by a four-poster bed, and beside it a chest by Piero Fonasetti with its unmistakable, playful imprint of a classical façade. The pendant portraits on each side of the bed are by Michael Dahl and show the Irish artist and connoisseur, Hugh Howard, and his wife, Thomasine. Meanwhile in the bathroom the sumptuous marble sarcophagus bath, like the relief roundel above it, is a Roman trophy from the 9th Baronet’s Grand Tour collection.
In a corner of the Stair Hall conceals the former gentelman's room and hides one of the most interesting architectural achievements in the house. This wonderfully small, discreet space known originally as the Writing Room was a business room of Sir Harles Coote, essentialy a rivate study of a kind that was commonplace in largerhouses. The room featured a fire proof closet for deeds and documents of importance. The room continued tobe used as a study into the twentieth century, its privacy still maintained from outside by tinited glass but its original decoration in grey and white long lost in numurous redecorations.
