The Westmeath Room perfectly evokes the character of the furnished bedrooms of the house when it was built in the early nineteenth century.
The portrait above the chimneypiece, from the studio of Sir Thomas Lawrence, depicts the dashing Marianne Jeffreys of Blarney Castle, County Cork, after whom the room is named. She married the 7th Earl of Westmeath in 1784 and gained notoriety when her transgressions on a carriage with Augustus Cavendish-Bradshaw led to one of the most sensational divorce cases of the time. In 1796 Lord Westmeath was awarded £10,000 against Cavendish - Bradshaw who. undeterred, married Marianne later the same year.
