Hughie O'Donoghue

Shaen's Furnace

Artist in Residence: Hughie O'Donoghue 14th - 16th November

Born in Manchester in 1953 to an Irish mother, Hughie O’Donoghue spent much of his childhood in Co. Mayo. O’Donoghue’s work is concerned with history as memory. He has a distinguished reputation, not least for his masterful expression of human suffering.

These residencies will offer guests a rare opportunity to witness the creative process in real time, within the serene and inspiring setting of our estate. During their stays, visiting artists will paint, sketch, or explore new works, drawing inspiration from the landscapes, architecture, and atmosphere of Ballyfin. Many will display selected pieces around the house, and each artist has generously agreed to engage with guests in informal settings.
