-Leaving Certificate Programme-
The Leaving Certificate Programme is a two year course in which students study seven subjects for the Leaving Certificate Examination. All students study the three compulsory subjects: -Gaeilge (unless exempt), English and Mathematics, while they choose four subjects from the following: History, Geography, French, German, Biology, Agricultural Science, Physics, Chemistry, Business , Accountancy, Art and Music.
The selection of Leaving Certificate subjects is one of the most important decisions made by the students in their schooling as it has major career and third level implications.
In Patrician College, we ensure our students are thoroughly prepared for this selection process by the following measures.
All students sit an aptitude test which reveals in what direction a student may be academically orientated towards, e.g. a scientific direction
Students are informed of the admission requirement of third level colleges and the course subject requirement for each individual course.
Students are introduced to the course content of each individual Leaving Certificate subject.
All students meet the Career Guidance Counsellor on an individual basis before making their choice of subjects.
We try to facilitate a students choice of subjects as far as possible and we do not believe in imposing a fixed group of subjects on students to facilitate time-tabling purposes. In Patrician College, we always put the interest of the student first.
As well as studying their seven academic subjects for two years, students also have classes in Religious Education, Physical Education and Career Guidance every week.
