The Junior Certificate is a three year course in which students study the following compulsory subjects: Gaeilge, English, Mathematics, History, Geography, Science, Business Studies, Civic/Social & Political Education, Computer Studies, Religion, and Physical Education. While students have the choice of studying one from both the following options:-

Technical Graphics or Art or Music

French and German or French only

The first year classes are not streamed (i.e., the better students and the weaker students are not placed in a particular class). Each student entering the college has equal opportunity to make progress. There is no entrance examination given but in September students will sit an exam in Gaeilge, English, Mathematics and the purpose of this exam is to establish a student's academic ability and this will be used in conjunction with the class tests to see how each student is progressing throughout the year.

As students progress through Junior Certificate course, they have a choice of taking Higher or Ordinary level in each of the subjects for the Junior Certificate.
